Florida Road Trip 2005

The original plan was to arrive in Tampa for the 2005 SPOT Tampa AM, skate and watch the Vert Contest on Saturday, then enter the Old man Bowl jam on Sunday. We did end up seeing the Vert contest finals, however a little accident ended the Saturday events early.  5 hours and 5 stitches into Suz's shin later we made it to the SPOT 12-year anniversary party. We opted not to stick around any more and jetted off to West Palm Beach for an incoming north swell on Sunday. You can get more info on the contest at SPOT website. If you are street or vert amateur contestant this event might be for you. Otherwise we would suggest you go elsewhere that weekend.

The North End of West Palm beach has a very diverse break area.  This area is up Blue Heron to A1A. We were staying about a 1/2 mile north of the inlet. There is a shore break holding lefts towards the rocks around the bend. Directly in front there were both rights and lefts around the reef.  Florida definitely has its abundant wildlife.  Just remember you are more likely to get in a car accident. Plus, when its good, there are plenty of other people out.

The YMCA Olsner park was a great way to spend an afternoon waiting for the winds to switch offshore.
Suz is such the trooper. From the ER Room to Surfing, to Skating, to Slamming.

Down south in a area called Hollywood is Olliewood. Alan Gelfands bowl.  It is quite a gem and possibly worth the trip just to go skate there. It is a private bowl so you just can show up. Do a little research and you will find info on the web to get you there.  Sign the waiver, 5$, and just drop in.  Music is pumping. You can even bring your cooler. Thanks to Lloyd, Chris and all the guys we met there. It was quite a way to end the trip.
