February 17-20, 2006

The Island of Puerto Rico, originally populated by aboriginal peoples, was claimed by the Spanish in 1493.  400 years later the Island was made a U.S. territory as a result of the Spanish- American war.  In 1917 the people of Puerto Rico were granted U.S. citizenship.  In 1952 a constitution was written providing Puerto Rico with an internal self government.  Popularly- elected governors have served since 1948.  In the new millennium the Puerto Rico government began the building of skateparks in their cities.  So in 2006 Jeff and Suz go and take a visit.....

With the growing popularity of skateboarding happing around the globe, more and more skateparks are being built around the Island of Puerto Rico.  Look for a new 1.7 million in-ground concrete public skatepark near the golf course at the old Ramey Air Force base site in the city of Aguadilla.  The concrete park has been designed by legendary old school skater Roberto (Boligoma) Cortez and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2006.

Puerto Rico is not only stocking up on skateparks, it has some of the best surf Mother Nature can deliver, as well as, beautiful, lush nature, with beaches, rain forests, caverns, and more.  The Island and its people deliver a laid back yet festive Caribbean vibe.  For the skater/surfer type this Island is the place to be!  We hope to return again soon.  Many thanks Puerto Rico!
