On May 11, 2008 a coastal storm of rare intensity for the month of May hit the East Coast region.  The storm originated from a system which had caused a massive tornado outbreak in the Midwest.  "Trees and power lines were downed, the coast was flooded, and the ocean, apparently envious of all the Mother's Day brunches and dinners being consumed by families, had a big meal of its own the next day, eating many beaches for breakfast at high tide early Monday morning and for lunch that afternoon"

The storm brought in a week of good surf to the East Coast.  The photos below were taken at Assateaque Island, MD two days following the storm. -Photos curtsy of Steve Spies
